This Sunday, in place of our normal gravel training ride, we’re doing a mountain bike adventure instead!
We may be hike-a-biking the first mile, we may be riding some, we may give up and ride a completely different loop altogether! It’s an adventure to see if we can make it all the way up Hardwood Mountain Road from Groton State Park!
Meetup & Schedule
- Date: On Sunday, August 30 folks can either:
- Option A (Meet at the bike shop): Gather at Vermont Bicycle Shop at 9:45 AM, departing promptly at 10:00 AM.
- Option B (Meet in Groton): Arrive at the Silver Ledge/Beaver Brook Rd Trail pull-off at 10:30 AM. Wheels roll at 10:45 AM.
Note: This ride isn’t very far, but due to the terrain, it may take us 3 to 4 hours or more.
WILDERNESS ADVENTURE WARNING
- Self-Sufficiency: There are no safe water or food sources along the route. Be prepared.
- Skill Level: Riders should have experience traversing wilderness and proficient mountain bike skills to navigate rough terrain.
- The Beaver Dam Challenge: Expect to hike across the top of a beaver dam at the top of Hardwood Mountain—or, worst-case scenario, be prepared to portage a bicycle across a section of water. This will result in wet feet.
- Bug Prep: Expect wet areas and tall grass. Come prepared for ticks and mosquitoes!
